Storyline and Comments
----------------------
Storyline: College student, CASSIE, is determined to finish her
psychology thesis once and
for all. So much so, the idea of taking a summer job as a forest
ranger in a watchtower in
the middle of Ohekawan National Forest for one month was the
only way to achieve this.
No phones or contact with the outside world was surely the only
way to get her thesis done
and move on with her life. Despite her haunted past, and
resulting phobia of being alone,
she bravely accepts the job, despite her best friend Andrea's,
worries that her past may
come back to haunt her. While she's up in the tower monitoring
forest fires, things start to
go bump in the night, and her past quickly does become her
present. But what appears to
be some "ghostly matter" is really two of her fellow classmates
doing their own research for
a psychology thesis, using her as the study subject by luring
her to a fake ranger station in
the middle of nowhere. However, this is all lost on Cassie as
her fears reach a new height.
Meanwhile, Andrea gets a tip that all is not as it appears and
she rushes to Cassie's rescue.
Together, they quickly uncover the truth about her fellow
students using her "past" as the
perfect subject for a "fear" thesis; and their use of a little
local ghost story to help raise the
stakes. They even go so far as to recruit an imposter forest
ranger to help them out.
Cassie, feeling confident that she's now overcome her past,
confronts them with the help of
Andrea and the morally conflicted 'ranger' - Rhett - who feels
the scare went too far. Once
they've blown the cover, Cassie burns any evidence of her
neurosis ever being used as a
case study. It's only when her friend Andrea, seems possessed by
the "Ghost of Polly," that
her confidence in the new her is really tested. Thesis or no
thesis, this is one test that will
prove if the past is really history.

Characters

(Large Principal) ANDREA Gender: Female Age: 21 or 24-29
URBAN SAVVY. Cassie's loyal best friend (since they were 10) and
roommate. A student,
and college admin employee, whose major seems to be prowling the
dating jungle. She
recruits Cassie to help her choose dates online, and loves their
long talks, and to play video
games all night at the expense of housework. When Cassie accepts
the watchtower posting,
Andrea tries to dissuade her, selfishly not wanting to lose
Cassie's companionship, but also,
worried that Cassie's past and her phobia could become
problematic. When Andrea receives
a call from Dr. Miller, Cassie's psychiatrist, she poses as
Cassie and learns that Cassie's file
has been stolen from his office. Fearing for her roommate's well
being, Andrea is the everfaithful
friend and makes the trek out to the Ohekawon National Park to
find Cassie,
rescuing her from the cruel situation Cassie has unwittingly
fallen into. Together, Cassie
and Andrea uncover the plot, reveal the perpetrator's to be
Cassie's fellow students, Chad
and Sophie, and put a stop to their cruel intentions.

(Large Principal) RHETT Gender: Male Age: Late 20's, early 30's
CHARMING. GOOD LOOKING. A smooth talker. Wears a crisp fire
management officer
uniform. His moral conscience hovers in the gray zone. He mans
the fake ranger station,
and when Cassie arrives at Ohekawon National Park he signs her
in, shows her around the
place and sets her up in the watchtower. After a few days he
checks up on her and takes
her on a little picnic to get to know her a little better. When
Andrea arrives on the scene he
discovers her looking around the ranger station, and our ranger
Rhett seems not
trustworthy at all. However, when he and Andrea arrive at the
watchtower to check in on
Cassie, he suffers from a conflicted moral conscience and
disappears. Andrea remembers
coming across his profile at the college and identifies him as
Dan, also a psych major. Dan
returns and admits to being recruited by Chad and Sophie for
their experiment on Cassie,
and helps the girls catch Chad and Sophie in their hidden cabin
headquarters. Dan
surrenders the release documents Cassie has signed, and Cassie
burns them, rendering
Chad and Sophie's experiment a bust.

(Principal) CHAD Gender: Male Age: 21 or 24-29
ATHLETIC. ATTRACTIVE. SEXY. A psychology major, who is Cassie's
fellow student and has caught her eye with his good looks, which
he uses to get what he wants. A player. Chad is
revealed to be working with another fellow student, Sophie, on a
psychology thesis. Only
this thesis is filled with cruel intentions and subjects Cassie
to frightening circumstances to
prove their theory. They go so far as to locate an abandoned
watchtower in the Ohekawan
National Park, post a bogus job opportunity for a ranger to
monitor forest fire, and recruit
another fellow student to pose as a forest ranger. Building on
the legend of a local ghost,
Chad and company try to terrify Cassie and monitor the outcome
on close circuit video
surveillance equipment. Their cover is blown when Andrea arrives
to save Cassie, and their
'forest ranger' Rhett suffers from a moral conscience. Still
though, Chad is unrepentant.
(Principal) SOPHIE Gender: Female Age: 21 or 24-29
MODEL BEAUTY. SEX-KITTEN CHARM. A beauty who obviously has
Chad's attention. A fellow student of Cassie's, Sophie is found
to be working in cahoots with Chad on a
psychology thesis, using Cassie as the subject and setting her
up for terrifying situations in
the watchtower in Ohekawon National Park. Luckily her mean
objectives, together with
Chad, are discovered by Cassie and Andrea. Smart gal but blinded
by Chads' obvious
charm and good looks.

(Principal) PROFESSOR BATEMAN Gender: Male Age: Mid 40's
A youthful and stylish professor sporting a black turtle and
charismatic smile, and
effervescent wit; students can easily be enraptured by his aura.
He is Cassie's thesis
professor, and while he gives his class a deadline extension on
their assignments, he
expresses concern over Cassie's delayed thesis. He is supportive
of her work and
encourages her to go for it and get her thesis out in world.
Reassuring.

(Actor) YOUNG CASSIE Gender: Female Age: 7
Cassie Malloy in flashback. Innocent and courageous. She wakes
up in the middle of the
night, startled, but finds nothing out of place. She gets out of
bed to get herself a glass
water, and when she returns to her bedroom she is confronted by
the woman in the
tattered hospital gown. Kidnapped by this woman, Cassie is
locked in a storage locker for
two days and is then rescued by the police.

(Actor) POLICE OFFICER Gender: Male Age: 30's
One of the officers that kill the woman in the hospital gown and
rescue young Cassie.

(Non Speaking) WOMAN IN HOSPITAL GOWN Gender: Female Age: 40's
Desperate and deranged, she breaks into the Malloy household and
kidnaps little seven year-
old Cassie and keeps her captive in a storage locker. She's
barefooted and dressed in
a tattered hospital gown with red lipstick smeared across her
face and arms.

(Other) POLLY Gender: Female Age: 21 or 24-29
OFF CAMERA ROLE (but PRINCIPAL category). A lonely ghost that
proves to be the real
voice on the walkie-talkie from the east watchtower. When Cassie
is startled by strange
noises and sees something unidentifiable in the forest, Polly is
the comforting voice, and
light in the distance, from the east tower. They become
'walkie-talkie friends', sharing
feelings of loneliness and games of chess. After Rhett's story
of the ranger who set herself
on fire, resulting from feelings of alienation due to the
solitude in the forest, Cassie
becomes uncertain of Polly, even fearful that she is someone
playing a prank, or maybe
even the ghost herself.

OFF CAMERA ROLE (but PRINCIPAL category). Cassie's psychiatrist
who calls her apartment
and talks to Andrea posing as Cassie to report Cassie's file has
been stolen.
