Synopsis
For the past three years, RACHEL PARSONS, mid 30s, has been the perfect assistant. She works long hours, takes care of everything her boss, PAUL WESTCOTT, mid 40s, needs, and never makes a mistake. Why? Because she’s secretly in love with him.

Having lost her own parents to a car accident as a young child, Rachel has always dreamed of finding the perfect man and raising the perfect family. Her idealized fantasy has come to life as Paul Westcott, the President of a mid-level P.R. firm in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, Paul already has a family—a beautiful wife named CARMEN, 30s, and an adorable daughter, ISABELLE, 6. And since Paul will never give up his wife, there’s little that Rachel can do besides pine for him secretly.

But Rachel receives a stroke of luck when Carmen is rushed to the hospital, diagnosed with bacterial meningitis—an incapacitating disease, and ultimately slips into a coma. Rachel uses the opportunity to wedge her way further into Paul’s life—offering to babysit for Isabelle, make him dinner, handle things at the office. In short, three years’ worth of fantasy begins to materialize. It’s no surprise that when Carmen’s condition improves, Rachel is reluctant to give up her new place in Paul’s life. Rachel decides to seize the chance to murder Carmen while she’s still unconscious and rid her of Paul’s life forever.

And that’s not all. When Paul’s business take a downturn, and it appears that a big account may fall to a rival company, Rachel takes it upon herself to dig up dirt on the other company’s owner, GRADY, and blackmail him into withdrawing his bid. Even though no one knows Rachel had a hand in landing the account, it’s enough for Rachel to know she saved the day for Paul. Once the account is confirmed, Paul and his Vice-President, the attractive JUDITH, 30s, are invited to New York to meet with the big-whigs at their client’s headquarters. When Paul decides to take Isabelle with him, thinking a weekend away would help her take a break from thinking about her mother’s death, Rachel decides to go even though she wasn’t invited. The day before the trip, Judith comes down with an awful stomach ache and Isabelle’s new nanny realizes she “accidentally” mixed up an important appointment with immigration regarding her mother’s visa. Lucky for Paul, Rachel offers to go last minute to take care of his daughter.

In New York, Rachel makes her move, kissing Paul during a moment she misconstrues as romantic, and he is forced to tell her that he has no interest in her. Rejected, Rachel decides she must work harder to win Paul’s affections, but back at the office, things begin to unravel very quickly. Word that Rachel was researching Grady right before the blackmail and was seen tampering with Judith’s food before she became ill has worked its way back to Paul. Paul realizes that Rachel’s obsession with him may have led her to this behavior and decides the best thing for all involved is to let her go.

Rachel doesn’t take the news of being stricken from Paul’s life very well. She’s hurt, betrayed, and slowly beginning to lose her grip on reality. When her live-in cousin prods too much about Paul, Rachel blows up and murders her in a fit of rage. All sense of reason completely gone, Rachel decides that if she can’t have Paul, no one can. And if he couldn’t see how much she deserved to be loved by him, he doesn’t deserve to live anyway. Armed with a gun, Rachel decides to attend a company dinner—uninvited of course—will she will make her final stand and everyone who stood in the way of her perfect fantasy family… will pay the ultimate price.
