Man
You are a man in your
late sixties, born in the Ukraine, and immigrated to Canada
nearly fifty years ago. During WW II, when you were fifteen
you were arrested, separated from your family and taken to
Germany; you have not seen or heard from them since. In 1959
you received a letter from a cousin who informed you that your
parents had disappeared. He included a photo and address of
your brother in Moscow, and the address of your sister who was
imprisoned in Siberia. He cautioned you not to try to contact
any of them for fear of endangering them. Since the fall of
the former USSR you have often wondered if you could find
them. The addresses provided by your cousin years ago have
been lost. Some of your friends have returned to Russia for a
visit and have informed you that it is safe to go, but you
still feel afraid of the government. You have heard that the
Red Cross helps people to locate missing relatives and you
have mustered enough courage to come and see what can be done.
