Storyline: Mary (Janeane Garofalo) is a young woman who is
thoroughly unhappy with her life. She is tired of doing music
reviews of crappy bands. She is tired of her boyfriend, Jake,
asking her to move in with him. And she’s tired of thinking
she’s a big failure cause her ex-husband is getting remarried
and moving on with his life – and she isn’t. When Mary’s sister,
Elizabeth, phones and tells Mary that their mom broke her leg,
Mary is forced to fly across the country to visit her family –
with whom she doesn’t quite fit in anymore. Mom can’t take care
of herself with a broken leg and a decision is made: Elizabeth
will take their mom to live with her in Boston until she
recuperates and Mary – much to her displeasure – will drive her
mom’s cute little dog, named Binky, to meet them in Boston. As a
reluctant Mary crosses the country with her little dog in tow,
she meets some interesting people who help change her outlook on
life and force her to question her cynicism and overly critical
attitude. Mary begins to develop a new appreciation for music,
her boyfriend, her family and even – much to her surprise – that
runt of a dog named Binky.
